Painting has become one of the ways I understand myself and the world around me. It's where I can get out of my head, become fully present and let curiosity, intuition and play take over.

Sometimes I begin with an idea or something I'm learning. Other times I start without knowing what I'm making at all and allow the painting to reveal itself as I go. I've learned that the less I try to control the outcome, the more room there is for something unexpected to emerge.

Over time, I've also become fascinated by what we bring into the act of creating. Our emotions, intentions, experiences and energy don't simply disappear because we've picked up a paintbrush. They become part of the process and, I believe, part of what can ultimately be felt in the work.

For me, becoming a better artist isn't only about learning to paint better. It's about becoming better at listening, trusting, allowing and getting out of my own way.
